Cooper is 4! – Richmond, TX Child Photographer

4 year olds are fun! We took pictures (he brought his own camera), we played like we were a dinosaur and a little game of hide and seek! Does it feel like work when I get to play around during a session..nope! Happy Birthday Cooper! You are such a joy!

Best Camera/Lens!

I get this question often, “What camera/lens should I buy to take better pictures of my kids with?”

The point and shoots are great cameras for on the go pictures..but I know a lot of my families would love to get a really good picture of their kiddos instead of just snap shots! If this is the route you are wanting to go…a DSLR is the way to go!

Most DSLR cameras (that are beginner camera’s) come with a “kit”….I would recommend not purchasing the kit and instead purchasing the body of the camera and a separate lens…BUT with that being said….if you find a good deal, those lenses may be fun to play around with!

The Nikon D3400 is super inexpensive and a great camera! You can purchase HERE for under $400!

My favorite beginner lens would be the Nikon 50mm f 1.8D. Cheap and a great overall lens! This was the first lens I purchased when I had my first DSLR and it made a world of difference in my pictures! It’s under $150 and I recommend this to any of my clients who ask me what lens they should purchase first! You can purchase this lens HERE.

You put these two babies together and presto! The pictures will drastically improve when you can let more light into that camera! The kit lenses I discussed earlier are just not built to let in a lot of light with a higher f stop…but the 50 mm can let in so much more natural light (with a lower f stop), causing your pictures to become a lot more dreamy looking!

So put down those iPhones and go and purchase one of these! Probably for less than what an iPhone cost 😉
